Medical professionals are vital to everyday society in ensuring the health and well-being of our communities. Many of these professionals have a strong correlation to the arts and 21 exhibitors recently showcased their hobby through the ‘Doctors in Art’ exhibition held at Kearsney College. |

Focus on iThemba, which runs innovative foster care homes and a school, was recently the recipient of this donation and was delighted to receive the gift from key role-players in the event.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of these very talented medical professionals,” said Nadine Wright, Donor Relations Manager at iThemba. “Art is a wonderful outlet for expression and these scientifically minded professionals excel in the creative arena as well. Every cent stretches a long way and will make a significant difference in our foster children’s lives.”
The catalysts of the KwaZulu-Natal event were Dr Peter Breedt and his colleagues. Dr Breedt explained, “While attending a congress in Germany, we realized through discussion, that many of us were involved in the arts either through painting, music or short-story writing and we decided it was an opportunity to showcase the art and support charity. The first exhibition was held in 2006 with 8 exhibitors and we are delighted that it is attracting more and more interest.”
Pharmaceutical company, Adcock Ingram, celebrates their 120th anniversary in 2010 and is proud to be affiliated with the event as the main sponsor. “Our purpose is ‘Adding value to life’, which includes charities,” said Sue Leaver. “We are thrilled by the positive response to the event and the great support from the Hillcrest community.”
The 2010 exhibition is scheduled for 27 November 2010 and medical professionals who are interested in contributing are encouraged to contact Dr Breedt at his rooms in Hillcrest.
