Focus on iThemba - A Place of Hope

Joseph House

The first home to be established on the iThemba campus in 2006 was Joseph House, named after Joseph of Arimathea. As with beginnings there was an enormous sense of excitement and satisfaction when the furniture was unpacked and the children laid their heads on their pillows for the first time.

This comfortable four-bedroom house was initially headed by Isaac and Christine Mohlakwana who are now retired and is now anchored by married couple Rodney and Frances Heathcote.

The couple radiate warmth and have a deep love for children and the importance of family. Rodney obtained a diploma in Theology from Rosebank Bible College and has completed a diploma in ‘Child and Youth Care’ through UNISA. He was a Youth Counsellor at Brettonwood High School for 9 years. He is involved in an innovative ‘Bike ministry’ which aims to inspire disadvantaged children through motorbikes and outings.

Frances studied at the College of Nursing and obtained a diploma in General Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing and Midwifery.

Rodney and Frances have already formed wonderful bonds with the children and feel blessed to have the opportunity to make a positive impact in four young lives.
