Celebrating New Beginnings for Project Delight

We recently gathered with donors, friends, and community members to mark the official opening of Project Delight’s new grade R block. The expansion project took place over the course of the year in partnership with key donors to turn a vacant plot of land into a bright space, conducive to learning.

Project Delight, owned by principal Buyi Ngongoma, has been a partner of ours since 2012. Through this enduring collaboration, the School has evolved from humble beginnings to a nurturing environment catering to 118 children aged 3 months to 6 years. As the School commemorates its 30th founding anniversary, it stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and community support.

Under the visionary leadership of Buyi Ngongoma, Project Delight has emerged as a beacon of excellence in early childhood education. The School’s commitment to providing a high-quality learning experience has earned it widespread acclaim, and its ever-growing waiting list is the reason for this structural transformation project. The expansion includes two additional classrooms, an office, storage, ablutions and an extended play area.

During this poignant Opening Celebration, Principal Buyi Ngongoma and her family were overcome with emotion as they were honoured for being change-makers in the Embo Community for many generations. Under Principal Buyi’s stewardship, this new building is sure to impact many young lives for years to come.

Focus on iThemba’s Team Leader Tayla Goss shared, “The completion of Project Delight’s Grade R classroom block expansion is yet another demonstration of the power of collaborative partnership. Seeing the site transform from a quiet open space to a busy learning centre has been a humbling  experience, and it’s only through the generosity and support of our partners that we were able to facilitate this life-changing transformation.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Victor Daitz Foundation Foundation for being the catalyst for making this project possible, together with the generous support of (listed in alphabetical order): Innovative Methology NPC, Kerry Ingredients, Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education, The Fulton Trust, Thompsons Meats, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions (Pty) Ltd.
