Making a Difference on Mandela Day

Mandela Day, celebrated annually in South Africa on the 18th of July, has become synonymous with kindness and making a meaningful difference to the lives of others. It is one of our favourite days of the year! This year we were approached by four of our donors/partners who wanted to use Mandela Day as an opportunity to bless our partner Pre-Schools.

We had Container World come through to Project Bright and Project Joy with beautiful children’s books they had bought for the littlies, and they spent the morning reading and interacting.  Not only this, but they designed and printed beautiful flyers for the children to take home, outlining in English and isiZulu the importance of reading together as a family. It was special to witness the children captivated by the stories and the Container World staff enjoying this time of connection. We loved the attention to detail and care that went into preparing for this initiative – both from Container World and Project Bright and Joy!

The Collies Group wanted to get their hands dirty while making a difference and they opted to give Project Delight’s exterior wall a much needed lick of paint, as well as to repurpose car tyres as beautiful pot planters outside the School’s new Grade R block. The Collies Group arrived at Project Delight in the afternoon, ready to rock! They tackled their projects with huge energy and enthusiasm brightening the School with their paint brushes and vibrant spirit. They were unstoppable and Principal Buyi Ngongoma is thrilled with the result.

DanCor Properties lovingly prepared goodie bags for the little ones at Project Bridge, containing items such as crayons, snacks and toys – but each goodie bag personalised to cater to the needs and interests of every little child. The joy on the children’s faces as they received their gifts was truly heartwarming!

Thompsons Meats came through to Project Delight also equipped with brushes and bright paint ready to spruce up Buyi’s internal garden wall which separates the new Grade R block from the rest of the School. They worked tirelessly to achieve a beautiful result that really impresses. Project Delight has a great track record for producing gorgeous, healthy vegetables in their veggie garden – knowing this, Thompsons Meats also donated growing medium and veggie seedlings for the School to expand their yield.

We thank the Collies Group, Container World, DanCor Properties and Thompsons Meats for choosing us to facilitate opportunities to serve the community this Mandela Day. We also extend our thanks to the phenomenal principals we work with for so warmly welcoming our partners into their schools. Mandela Day 2024 is certainly one to remember!
