iThemba Academy – little people learning to give back…

Sue Sage, our Academy principal, is incredibly passionate about encouraging our learners to find ways of helping others, even when you have very little. This led our Grade R class to think outside of the box, by creating small gift boxes for children at a crèche in the Embo community. The learners decorated box templates with bright patterns, and with the help of Mrs Sage, folded the cardboard boxes and filled them with sweets. The gift boxes were then given to the Entokozweni Crèche, by our field rep – the little ones from the crèche were excited and curious about their gifts from the Academy children.

As a continuous project the Academy students have joined the bread tag initiative, where they collect bread tags from loaves of bread every week. A year’s worth of accumulated bread tags will be donated to an organisation which will then recycle the donated tags. The money gained from the recycling will then be used to purchase a wheelchair for someone in need.

These small acts of kindness go a long way to developing the iThemba Academy learners into the future leaders of their generation:

“We are teaching the children at the iThemba Academy that you are never too young and you don’t have to have much in order to give.“ – Sue Sage
